With ''War of Sound'', Mathis Mootz ( aka M2 / Squaremeter ) changed his direction from microtonal click'n'cut-oriented soundscapes to rhythm-oriented ambient music. Again, for his new release ''Aswad'', the beats are kept slow, but the drum sounds have become more dominant and powerful, capturing Squaremeter at its darkest yet. Tracks like ''Faregh'', brooding with dark elements throughout sit comfortably alongside ''Kefaya'' a moody horror soundtrack with slight arabic influences. ''Aswad'' delivers invigorating and innovative electronica with Muslimgauze influences ( particulaly on the cover artwork ) but always containing the trademark M2 pounding beats and electric clicks...The stylistic evolution of Squaremeter continues on ''Aswad'' - a unique and aural musical journey.
