ATARAXIA is an Italian neoclassical band that combines modern technology with archaic instrumentation. They describe their music as a cross "between sacred and profane, ethereal and neo-classical, contemporary and early music". Many of their albums are based on research on ancient European legends, mostly among Greek and Roman mythology. Their lyrics are written in many ancient and contemporary languages.
‘Simphonia Sine Nomine’ (Symphony with no name) is a quite unusual album, recalling in some ways certain workds of Dead Can Dance, Elijah's Mantle or other neoclasical bands of the early 90s. “Simphonia Sine Nomine” is halfway between Gothic and Symphonic Rock. Lead female vocalist Francesca Nicoli sings (in Italian and Latin) over synths, keyboards, electric and acoustic guitars, and occasionally drum machine. The music owns a dark 'liturgical' gothic feel with lots of minor keys and half-chanted singing, although there are a few brighter songs as well. A very enjoyable album and one of Ataraxia's all-time highlights...
