The story of NOVA-SPES already began in 1996. In these year Matthias Hübner and Sebastian Andrae founded the band SKYLINE EAST. They had some great songs and they achieved some successes in Germany. After two albums (GOTEM and ENIAC) and one single (HIDE!) the band resolved itself. The last concert happened in July of 1999. After it Matthias began studying media technology at the University of applied science in Köthen. Here he met Steffen Pöhler. Both began working together for some studies of Johann Sebastian Bach with the professor Gottfried Böttcher the german “jazz-pianist of the year 2006” and one of the founder of the PANIK-ORCHESTER with UDO LINDENBERG.
During this research project Matthias Hübner, Steffen Pöhler and André Richter, a great fan of AND ONE, founded NOVA-SPES at the end of october 1999.
Over the years the band developed its own sound in the synthiepop-scene caused by different influences. So the german magazine NACHTAKTIV wrote 2011: „They accomplish the string between danceability on the one side and sophisticated electronic music on the other one and they should established themselves in the electric club-scene with the album ´pripyat – home of lilith´ and their strong partner DANSE MACABRE.”
The german underground-magazine recommended NOVA-SPES already in the year 2006 to all “the fans of Depeche Mode, And One but also of some experimental antics.”
Since the release of and the concerts to the album PRIPYAT – HOME OF LILITH the band often labeled by the different medias as something between DEPECHE MODE, AND ONE and DAF. (for example german magazin ZILLO april/2012).
