1998
xotox was founded as a solo-project by andreas davids.
the xotox-sound is adequately described by himself as "industrial for hyperactive people". the debut-album "stueckgut" developed a small cult following, which eagerly anticipated the following releases "epos" and"monolith".
1999 – 2001
with the release of "disinhibition" xotox started performing live around germany, winning more fans and attracting media attention for the first time. the following albums "normalzustand: angst" and "rhythm of fear (live in jena)" got a variety of great reviews.
2002
"silberfieber" and "nothing" were released featuring the hits "eisenkiller", "nothing","null" and "zweischicht", which went on heavy rotation in many clubs in germany. both releases had this success resulted in xotox being picked up by industrial label pronoize, which in turn led to xotox getting a much higher profile in part through their contributionsto high profile compilations put together by the german scene magazin "orkus".
2003
the first album on pronoize was released - "lichtlos" managed to establish itself on nearly every german dancefloor. "eisenkiller" became the clubanthem of winter 2003/04 and "lichtlos" the benchmark album. for the very first time an industrial-act managed to reach number 1 in the german alternative charts (dac) and held on to the top spot for several weeks.
2004
the follow-up to "lichtlos" was released also on pronoize. "die unruhe" contained 15 new tracks, including the clubhits "nasse waende" and "mechanische unruhe" as well as several remixes. "die unruhe" sold out before the actual release date just on account of the pre-orders.
2005
„[psi]" was released as a jewel-case-edition and as a special limited double-cd-edition in a digipack. "[psi]" reached pos. 2 in the german alternative charts (dac).
2006
xotox released the first live-album called "dokumentation 1: ton" (limited to 1000 pcs.)
2008
"in den zehn morgen" was released. The album contains many club-hits , such as "ewig", "habitat", "grob fahrlaessig" or "keine ruhevor dem sturm". "in den zehn morgen" was released both in standard jewel-case format and as a limited box set, which contains the bonus cd "early recordings". the box set is strictly limited to 1000, each numbered by hand. "in den zehn morgen" reached number 1 in the german alternative charts (dac) and held on to the top spot for 6 weeks in a row and it reached also position 4 in the DAC "Top 50 of the year 2008". in may „hyperactive – the best of“ was released as an exclusive north-america-release by vendetta music (under licence ofpronoize). this release contains all clubhits and 2 previously unreleased tracks.
2009
the split-ep "we are deaf" with detune-x was released in september on the italian label rustblade as a guest appearance and by courtesy of pronoize. "we are deaf"was released as a standard jewel-case versionand as a limited boxset.
2010
„die unruhe 2.0“ was released on march, 19th as a re-release of „die unruhe“ wich was originally released in 2004. „die unruhe 2.0“ contains all original tracks plus two previously unreleased tracks with „you can´t hurt me“ and „the punisher“, which stem from the same session. This release is adequately announced as „the return of the original...often imitated but never equalled!“
2012
xotox celebrates 10 years of „Eisenkiller“ with an EP which is especially produced for „Eisenkiller“, because even after 10 years „Eisenkiller“ is still a must for every dancefloor. This EP does not only include the original track from 2002, it also contains remixes by BAHNTIER,AUTOCLAV1.1, AFTER WHITE SMOKE and JEAN BACH as well as „digitale Demenz“ a previously unreleased (and officially unfinished) track from 2008. As a special bonus there are included two demo-versions „Schwanengesang“and „Notwehr“ , exclusive previews for the upcoming album. This EP is strictly limited to 1000 pcs. and 300 pcs. will be released as a special fan-edition which contains a hand-numbered (punched) rusty metalplate with logo !
2013
with "schwanengesang", on the eve of his 15th anniversary, xotox prepares
another assault on your senses. more aggressive and uncompromising than
ever, proving once again that his ownbrand of the genre defining "industrial for hyperactive people"is one with which he serves no master. Intelligently distorted electronics meet massive club beats which slams down on the listeners. on „schwanengesang“, xotox creates a compelling blend of sound which both, old and new fans, will love! "schwanengesang" is different... noise within the noise blended with intelligent distorted electronics. xotox is the anti-word - music for your own revolution! the limited edition comes in a digipack including a bonus-cd with remixes and collaborations of well-known acts and as a special feature dj frequen-c, well known as the resident-dj of the leipzig-based cult club "darkflower", presents a dj-mix created of all his personal xotox favourites, live and directly from the mixing desk of his dj-console.
"schwanengesang" stayed for the maximum duration of 8 weeks in the dac (deutsche alternative charts) with a peak position 6 and also the gewc (german electronic webcharts) have been entered (peak pos. 8). "schwanengesang" stayed in the eac (european alternative charts) for 12 weeks in a row (peak pos. 12).
2014
"redux" marks the release on vinyl for the first time. for this add-on to the 2013 album "schwanengesang" remixes have been made by suicide commando, monolith, kiew, ambassador21, mondträume, sci-fi industries and aehm. "redux" also contains the previously unrelsead "ritmo diabolico" and the searched-for "guardian angel". this 12" vinyl is limited to 300 pcs. worldwide,100 pcs. of them in red vinyl. "redux" stayed for the maximum duration of 8 weeks in the dac (deutsche alternative charts) with a peak position 3 and also the bullets of the gewc (german electronic webcharts) have been reached.
2015
Way back when futurepop was dominating the dance-floors and the scene, the appearance of xotox paralleled the spirit of those times with his own unique sound. Since then, the distorted beats of the debut album "Lichtlos" and subsequently, the clubhit "Eisenkiller" brought the scene to boiling point; catapulting xotox to the top of DJ-playlists, culminating as the ‘first industrial-act ever’, to take the topspot of the German Alternative Charts (DAC) circa 2003/2004. The EP"die Unruhe" (2004) and the following album "[PSI]" (2005) consolidated xotox's status as an exceptional artist who remains true to his sound without self-repetition; unafraid of experimentation. Following albums in 2006 and 2008 , included the live “ Dokumentation 1:Ton" and "in den zehn Morgen"; and again reached No. 1 in the DAC. After a split-album and two re-releases “Schwanengesang“ was launched in 2013. This album, that was distinguished by its rough and dark sounds, was swiftly followed by "Redux"; an extraordinary add-on 12" vinyl (2014). xotox is still regarded as an originator of the genre that hasserved many artists as an inspiration; refreshing and re-establishing his sound with each new release. Now, "Essentials" presents us with a cross-section of Andreas David’s work; covering all of his output since his ground-breaking debut, "Lichtlos". Enriched with previously unreleased and exclusive demo-versions from this period, as well as exciting new remixes of previous classics; ”Essentials“ is the definitive reference to xotox’s extraordinary musical career thus far.
