The shooting stars of “Neue Deutsche Härte” (which is best translated with “hard German-language Rock music”) return with a new collection of full-frontal attacks on what lies beneath the surface of the Western world’s illusion of an ideal world. On “Bitte schlag’ mich”, the Berlin-based band continues to hit it where it hurts with a storm front of guitars, a voice that would give the god of thunder himself a run for his money and a massive mix of juicy Metal-riffs and thudding electronics, enhanced by catchy and groovy German New Wave influences. OST+FRONT never provoke just for provocation’s sake and instead opt for approaching their volatile subject matters with a cynical approach that is infused with a lot of black humor. The title track, for instance, tackles the vile subject of domestic violence with a highly creative approach that effectively unmasks evil sporting a jester’s smirk. The EP also contains the rare and sought-after club hit “Silikon”, an orchestral reinvention of the classic “Denkelied”, 4 remixes of the title song by, among others, Lord Of The Lost, Rabia Sorda and Pankow, plus a version of the track that was re-recorded by Medieval-hit-wonder Saltatio Mortis, who single-handedly turn “Bitte schlag’ mich” into an anthem with high sing-along-factor. The collection of songs is topped-off with a massive homage to grandmaster Falco whose posthumous charts hit “Out Of The Dark” is turned into the sort of emotional steamroller that we all knew had always slumbered under its radio-compatible shell.
