A new star has risen in the realm of dark, atmospheric rock music! On their new long player, “I Am Your Ruin”, Munich dark rockers Beyond the Void merge the melancholy feel of New Wave with the fat guitar riffs of Heavy Metal, the addictive melody lines of Alternative Rock and a little bit of Gothic gloom. This mixture results in a highly contemporary sound that can easily match the genre’s stars like HIM, Zeraphine or Scream Silence regarding intensity and accessibility, but does not copy any of these group’s styles. Beyond the Void show an absolute mastery at slowly building tension that will then unload in powerful guitar riff attacks and wonderfully melodic chorus parts. The powerful voice of lead singer Daniel Pharos effortlessly carries the complex song structures and switches from goose bump-inducing deep crooning to a melodic tenor voice that does not look in any way inferior to established vocalists such as Ville Valo. Beyond the Void put more musical emphasis on the overall atmosphere than the Finnish hit-wonder, though, and spice up their complex sound with a lot of extra elements, such as finely arranged string parts or symphonic bursts of female choir. There is little doubt that with an album as strong as “I Am Your Ruin”, the sextet from Munich has the potential to rise to the top of the Modern Goth and Love Metal leagues … due to their strong melodies and cunning hook lines they are bound to appeal to a much wider audience than just the people clad in black.
