“Every 100 Years” is the document of an extraordinary musical friendship: the American songwriter, Woodstock veteran and son of folk legend Woody Guthrie meets the East German singer-songwriter. The history of this event began in 2002 when Nora Guthrie, Arlo’s sister, watched Wenzel perform a concert together with Billy Bragg. She invited Wenzel to the Woody Guthrie Archive in New York, and Wenzel returned the favor with the album “Ticky Tock”, on which he put Guthrie text to music. The idea of a joint tour with Arlo Guthrie came about during a Wenzel concert in Nashville. It took place in June 2006. Guided by the motto “Together”, they travelled around the country. The recordings at hand give an idea of the fascination of this unusual meeting of singers, described by a "Die Welt" critic as follows: “An entire world of poetry and lyricism, coarseness and fine irony, magical as well as down-to-earth sounds (…)”. The two of them are accompanied by a five-piece band.
