New Wave, 80s Electropop
This double-CD not only contains the only official album recorded by this French Electro project, but also their tracks to the ‘Essai’ album, a complete ‘Lost’ album and several bonus-tracks, Demos etc.
Founded between late 1982 and early 1983 by Benjamin Ritter & Laurent Saïet – after 5 months with a drummer, Begin Says… finally opts for a drum machine that best suits their minimalist and repetitive music. After a dozen titles composed, they are active live from late 1983 and in 1984 they expand their repertoire and record a 1st commissioned music for choreography, which will become a regular activity in their existence – as well as composing music for movies or plays.
But it was not until mid 1987 that they locate a label interested in the music of the group, Facteurs d' Ambiance, the label of Alain Arnaud, who produced Martin Dupont and Résistance. Alain Arnaud offers to the group to include 3 of the 4 songs recorded in 1986 on a compilation released in March 1988: "Essai" (this LP also includes titles of Martin Dupont, Men for Ben & L’Enfance Eternelle). The title "Arbeit" goes into playlists of the free radio Oui FM. The full band again resumes its activities regularly to this period (concerts and demos for an album).
It is about to record an album for Facteurs d'Ambiance but the label can not finance the cost of a recording studio and the band finally signs a contract with Off the Track, a label to become very successful and famous with Les Negresses Vertes, Bel Canto and others.
Sung in English, German and Italian, the album is extremely well received by the press and radio of the time and a videoclip for "Sado's Way of Life" is broadcasted repeatedly on many TV stations. After more commissioned music and some concerts, Begin Says record 8 tracks demos of 14 new songs in 1990 for a second album – never released finally due to economic problems of the labels involved. The group ceases operations after a final concert in early 1992.
